‘Banking’ on the Future

BSU and Santander Bank, N.A. have entered into an agreement where Santander Universities will support study abroad opportunities and the Bridge Partnership Program, a residential summer program on the university campus for middle school students of New Bedford, Brockton and Boston.

The inaugural Bartlett Scholarship Funds Luncheon was held, recognizing the achievements of 30 students.

President Dana Mohler-Faria welcomed the honorees and their family members, telling the story of how Bruce and Patricia Bartlett met during the late 1960s as undergraduates at Bridgewater, graduated and went on to successful lives.”

The Psychology Department has long put a premium on research. For years, the department’s young scholars made due with small meeting spaces and cramped rooms. Not anymore. The new psychology lab includes plenty of space for experiments and collaboration. There's even a specialized area where students can work with focus groups.

A year ago, BSU instituted a partnership between with JetBlue and Cape Air that is giving students a more definitive path to the cockpit. The JetBlue University Gateway Program takes the best aviation students and helps with training and mentoring, eventually setting them squarely on the path to fly first for Cape Air and then JetBlue. BSU was the seventh institution to be taken aboard.

So Many 'StARS'

The 2015 Student Arts and Research Symposium (StARS) was held in the Moakley, Hart and Burnell Hall buildings and a record 775 graduate and undergraduate students participated. 

This was the first year that both graduate students and undergraduates presented together.

Canadian Power

“Energy Matters: Challenges and Prospects for Canada-US Relations” was the title of an all-day conference sponsored by BSU's Canadian Studies Program in cooperation with the Consulate General of Canada in Boston and the government of Quebec. The event was held in the Dunn Conference Center.

Dedicated Author

Thomas Koshy, professor emeritus at Framingham State University, visited campus to discuss his new book, while also speaking highly of the late Dr. Thomas Moore, to whom the textbook is dedicated.

But first, there was some problem solving.

“Math is not spectator sport,” Professor Koshy said. Proving this, he passed out graph paper so those in attendance could try their hand at a few math problems.

Call it a lesson with some real meat to it.

Twenty-two BSU students recently got a close-up look at how beef is raised when they toured a local cattle farm. 

The students visiting the Gibbett Hill Farm Company in Groton included 20 who have declared nutrition as their minor, according to Dr. Kathleen Laquale, who coordinates BSU’s nutrition minor program and is a professor in the Movement Arts, Health Promotion and Leisure Studies Department.

The Human Resources Department celebrated long-serving employees, as well as recipients of this year’s Drive Awards for exceptional performance during its annual ceremony.

Honored were employees with 10 and twenty years on the job, as well as the recipients of awards for community involvement, safety, overall effectiveness and superior accomplishment. Here is the full list of honorees:
