Dr. Laura Ramsey, assistant professor of psychology, has an article in Psychology of Women Quarterly. It contains the results of a study showing that men who objectify their female partners are more likely to coerce them into having sex.

In the article’s abstract, Dr. Ramsey (with co-author Tiffany Holt) summed up the research findings:

BSU comes to the Cape beginning in January

Students who live on or near Cape Cod will have the opportunity to stay local and graduate from Bridgewater State University, thanks to the opening in January of a new facility in Yarmouth.

As part of the university’s mission, and spurred by President Dana Mohler-Faria who hails from the Cape, the new location off Route 28 will offer master’s degrees, bachelor’s degree completion in partnership with Cape Cod Community College, certificate and non-credit programs.

A delegation of three students in the Masters of Public Administration program have just returned from visiting Syrian and Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan. The group was led by Professor Deniz Zeynep Leuenberger, coordinator of the Center for Legislative Studies (CLS) Global Civic Leadership and Education Program and faculty director of the university’s Institute for Policy Analysis and Regional Engagement. 

Cape Verdean President Visits

Jorge Carlos Fonseca, president of the Republic Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), and First Lady Lígia Fonseca, were the guests of honor at a luncheon and reception hosted by BSU President Dr. Dana Mohler-Faria.

At the reception, held in the Heritage Room of the Maxwell Library, Dr. Joao Rosa, the founding executive director of the new Pedro Pires Institute for Cape Verdean Studies at Bridgewater, delivered introductory remarks:

Damon Theodule isn’t sure what he wants to do after graduation. But the Taunton High student has a better idea now, after spending time on campus as part of the The Bridge to Employment (BTE) Program.

“I wanted to see what it was about, get the opportunity to work with these people and see what I want to do after high school,” he said.
