A distinguished lecture by Dr. E. C. Ejiogu of the Centre for Africa Studies at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa, will be held Tuesday, March 26 in the Center of Science & Mathematics Lecture Hall starting at 12:30 p.m. His lecture is entitled "The Roots of Political Instability in Nigeria" and is sponsored by Bridgewater's African Studies Program as part of Africa Awareness Week. For more information, contact Dr. Louise Badiane, coordinator of the African Studies Program.

Mandela's Legacy

A distinguished lecture by Dr. Vernon Domingo, professor of geography at Bridgewater State University, entitled "Mandela and His Legacy for South Africa and the World" will be held Wednesday, March 27, in the Center of Science & Mathematics Lecture Hall starting at 1:50 p.m. Co-sponsored by the Department of Geography and the African Studies Program, his lecture is part of Africa Awareness Week. Dance, Drumming Concert

A gala African Dance and Senegalese Drumming Concert will be held Wednesday, March 27, from 5 to 9 p.m. in Burnell Hall, Room 132A. The performance will feature African performers Keep Calm and Azonto (Ghana dance) and Sabar (Senegalese drumming). The concert is part of Africa Awareness Week events.

A distinguished lecture by Dr. Katherine Luongo of Northeastern University entitled "Witches and Bureaucrats: African Witchcraft and its Relation to Global Asylum Seeking" will be held Thursday, March 28, in the Center of Science & Mathematics Lecture Hall starting at 11 a.m. Co-sponsored by the Departments of History and Anthropology and the African Studies Program, the lecture is part of Africa Awareness Week.

A distinguished lecture by Dr. Daniel Smith of Brown University entitled "The Hidden Impact of AIDS in Africa: Understanding the Social Consequences of the Epidemic" will be held Thursday, March 28, in the Center of Science & Mathematics Lecture Hall starting at 12:30 p.m. Co-sponsored by the Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion and Leisure Studies, the African Studies Program and the Department of Anthropology, the lecture is part of Africa Awareness Week. A distinguished lecture and discussion entitled "From the Jihad to Boko Haram: The State, Religion and Social Conflict in Nigeria" by Dr. Edlyne Anugwon, visiting scholar from the University of Nigeria, will be held Thursday, March 28, in Room 112 of East Campus Commons starting at 2 p.m. Co-sponsored by the Department of Anthropology and the African Studies Program, the lecture is part of Africa Awareness Week. "Educating Girls: Breaking Down the Barriers in Afghanistan" was the title of a lecture given by Razia Jan, who was chosen by CNN as a top 10 hero for 2012.

Held in the lecture hall of the new science and mathematics center, the event drew an audience of more than a hundred and was the second installment of the recently inaugurated John Quincy Adams Foreign Affairs Distinguished Speaker Series, which is sponsored by the Dr. Edward Minnock Center for International Engagement.

Bridgewater State University observed its third annual Day of Dialogue event, this year themed, "Building Skills for Diversity and Social Justice.” An audience of more than 300 students, faculty and staff was in attendance for the day-long program held in the ballroom of the Campus Center.
