Students learned BSU has an involvement opportunity for just about everyone at the university’s annual Involvement Fair, which introduces students to the many campus clubs and organizations seeking new members.

Hundreds of students throughout the day in the campus center’s large ballroom traveled from table to table, speaking with representatives from fraternities and sororities, student government, intramural sports, and community service programs, among others. Some students signed up on the spot.

Eid al-fitr, a celebration held throughout the world to observe the end of Ramadan, the month-long fasting that takes place annually among followers of Islam, was held last night in the Dunn Conference Center.

"Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection as well as fasting among Muslims," said Dr. Jabbar Al-Obaidi, professor of communication studies and director of the university's Center for Middle East Studies, in opening the program.

In a recent panel discussion, student veterans recounted their military experience and its effect on their lives and families.

"Tonight, five of us who served in the military in Iraq or Afghanistan, or both, are not going to discuss whether the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were morally right or even justifiable. We are simply going to tell you how we experienced war first-hand."

Before resuming teaching and scholarship this fall, more than 60 faculty members from all disciplines participated in a week of workshops on best teaching practices and scholarly writing at BSU's annual Teacher-Scholar Summer Institute.
