“Our overriding objective is to create a community where excellence in teaching and learning is our hallmark, and it’s impossible for me to list in the few minutes I have today all of the many ways that our faculty, our deans, our staff, and our students have in the past year have contributed to this effort,” said President Dana Mohler-Faria,  as he kicked off the 2013-2014 academic year at the annual opening day breakfast.

More than 500 faculty members and staff filled the East Campus Commons for the event.

Dr. Les Cory, professor emeritus in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and cofounder of the Society for Human Advancement through Rehabilitation Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, will be the speaker at the Fall 2013 Guest Lecture Series organized by the Children's Physical Developmental Clinic. His lecture, "Computer Equipment Designed and Engineered to Suit the Abilities of Individuals with Disabilities," will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 a.m. in Room 120 of the Science and Mathematics Center.

Disabled Sports Program

Jack Daly, interim director of the New England Disabled Sports Program at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH, will be the speaker at the Fall 2013 Guest Lecture Series organized by the Children's Physical Developmental Clinic at Bridgewater State University. His lecture, "A Program Fostering an Active Lifestyle During Winter and Summer Months," will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8 .m. in Room 120 of the Science and Mathematics Center. All lectures in the series are free and open to the public.

Cochlear Implants

Dr. Marilyn Neault, director of habilitive audiology at Children's Hospital in Boston and associate professor of otology and laryngology at Harvard Medical School, will be the speaker at the Fall 2013 Guest Lecture Series organized by the Children's Physical Developmental Clinic at Bridgewater State University. Her lecture, "An Introduction to Cochlear Implant," will be held Saturday, Oct. 19 at 8 .m. in Room 120 of the Science and Mathematics Center. All lectures in the series are free and open to the public.

Kristin Lake, guide dog mobility instructor at The Seeing Eye, Inc. of Morristown, NJ, will be the speaker at the Fall 2013 Guest Lecture Series organized by the Children's Physical Developmental Clinic at Bridgewater State University. Her lecture, "The Seeing Eye, Inc.: The Oldest Guide Dog School in the World Partnering with People Who Are Blind," will be held Saturday, Oct. 5 at 8 .m. in Room 120 of the Science and Mathematics Center. All lectures in the series are free and open to the public.

CPDC Lecture Series

Dr. Jeff McCubbin, dean of the College of Applied Human Sciences at Colorado University, will be the kick-off speaker at the Fall 2013 Guest Lecture Series organized by the Children's Physical Developmental Clinic at Bridgewater State University. His lecture, "Making an IMPACT: How One Program Influenced Many," will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 at 8 .m. in Room 120 of the Science and Mathematics Center. All lectures in the series are free and open to the public.

Peace Through Diversity

"Peace Through Living a Life Committed to Diversity" is the topic of a free event that is open to the public on Friday, Sept. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. on the quadrangle of Bridgewater State University's Boyden Hall. The occasion will include a barbecue, welcoming remarks by President Dana Mohler-Faria and Rev. Dr. Anita Farber-Robertson of First Parish Church. Dr.

Open House

Weygand Hall, a new 500-bed residence hall, will go online with the start of the fall semester. A ceremony marking the opening will be held Sept. 25 at 3 p.m.

The building is named for George Weygand, ’53, a beloved figure on campus. Dr. Weygand was a longtime physics professor at Bridgewater who has remained active with the institution since his retirement.

MSW Application

An information session for the Master of Social Work program offered at Bridgewater State University will be held Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Moakley Center Auditorium, 100 Burrill Ave. MSW faculty and field staff will be in attendance to provide an overview of the program and answer questions. Admission information about the program can be found at www.bridgew.edu/admissions/graduate/apply. Deadline for fall 2014 admission is Jan. 10, 2014.
