Dr. Emily M. Douglas, associate professor in the School of Social Work, testified before the National Commission to Eliminate Child Abuse and Neglect Fatalities.

She spoke before the 12-member commission in Burlington, Vt., a stop on what commissioners referred to as a “listening tour.”  Their mission is to develop a national strategy and recommendations for reducing fatalities resulting from child abuse and neglect.

Two faculty members have recently had their work featured in the media.

News & Events

Students at BSU are going places. Literally. And much of the credit goes to the Office of Study Abroad, which met with 350 interested students at its annual fall event.

Weeks after the fair, OSA geared up for the winter and spring study abroad application deadline of Sept. 26.

The Week in Pictures

News & Events

This week was a wet one thanks to the hurricane that passed nearby, but luckily the foliage remained vibrant as ever. The beauty is captured even in the rain through images of the changing trees, reflective puddles, and interesting perspectives. The week concluded with a campus-wide Halloween party with food and games in Weygand Hall on Thursday.

“The first man we saw on the island was an Indian named Joseph Polis, whom my relative had known from a boy, and now addressed familiarly as "Joe." He was dressing a deerskin in his yard. … We asked him if he knew any good Indian who would like to go into the woods with us, that is, to the Allegash Lakes, by way of Moosehead, and return by the East Branch of the Penobscot, or vary from this as we pleased.

Home Again

News & Events

The Bears football and women’s soccer teams won; the weather held up – for the most part; and hundreds of revelers from many different class years, along with friends and family, helped make this year’s Homecoming and Family Day a success.

The annual event features three days of activities, including sports, a parade, lots of food, and something for every member of the BSU community no matter his or her age.
