The Office of Undergraduate Research Abroad has announced it will fund two summer research projects.

Dr. Diana Fox, professor of anthropology, and students Zelmia Harvey, Alexandra Pivero, Michaela Santos, and McKayla Hoffman, will travel to Jamaica where they will conduct archaeological and ethnographic research for their project titled, “What is Jamaican Cultural Heritage Tourism? A Critical, Applied Inquiry”

The annual Class of 1942 lecture series, sponsored in cooperation with the Department of Mathematics, was held in the auditorium of the new Science and Mathematics Center. More than 100 faculty members, students, alumni and emerti faculty were on hand for a lecture on “Chaos and Fractals,” delivered by Dr. Robert Devaney of Boston University.

A frigid week of winter weather and a threat of flurries couldn’t dampen the spirits of the approximately 800 students who received their degrees Friday night during the university’s 26th annual Winter Commencement Convocation.

The Rondileau Campus Center Auditorium was filled to capacity for the two-hour-plus ceremony.

BSU President Dana Mohler-Faria in his address reminded the graduates how lucky they are but that this good fortune comes with a price.

More than 200 members of the Bridgewater State University community and area residents spent the 2013 MLK holiday volunteering across the region. The volunteer work took place at these locations: Jumpstart Bridgewater-on campus, Father Bill's Distribution Center-Brockton, Cradles to Crayons-Boston, VA Hospital-Brockton, Girls, Inc.-Taunton, Bridgewater Nursing Home and Gifts to Give-New Bedford.
