Bristol County Savings Bank presented the university a $12,500 gift to be put toward the Adrian Tinsley Program for Undergraduate Research in honor of the program's namesake and former BSU president.
The donation was presented to BSU in honor of President Emeritus Adrian Tinsley, who served for many years on the bank's board of trustees. President Dana Mohler-Faria accepted the donation at a campus reception attended by Dr. Tinsley and a number of the bank's board members.
President Mohler-Faria said he was "personally thrilled" to receive the gift in Dr. Tinsley's honor. "A person's legacy is not created by what we want, but by what we do," he said. "If we do well, our legacy lives on. Dr. Tinsley's legacy will live on and on."
In presenting the gift, Dennis Kelly, chairman, Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation (BCSCF), said he would like Dr. Tinsley, who recently retired from the board, "to walk away knowing how much you mean to us."
Dennis Cody, chair of the bank's board, agreed, saying he had respected Dr. Tinsley's perspective over the years.
In response, Dr. Tinsley called it a privilege to serve on the board. "I learned a lot more than I contributed, and I thank you," she said. (University Advancement)
