The Global Film Series at Bridgewater State University is presenting "Searching for Sugarman" with a discussion led by Dr. Kimberly Chabot Davis, professor of English, Thursday, March 20 at 4 p.m. The film will be screened in the Moakley Auditorium. "Searching for Sugarman" tells the true story of Mexican-American Sixto Rodriguez, a '70s rock icon that never was. His soulful album sold poorly in the U.S. and he disappeared into obscurity amid rumors of an on-stage suicide. But a bootleg recording found its way into apartheid South Africa where he became a phenomenon and inspired resistance movements. The film follows the story of two South African fans who set out to discover what really happened to their hero.
