Mission & Values

As the largest public university in Southeastern Massachusetts, Bridgewater State University has a responsibility to educate the residents of Southeastern Massachusetts and the Commonwealth, and to use its intellectual, scientific and technological resources to support and advance the economic and cultural life of the region and the state.

We define social justice as promoting fairness, equal access and equal opportunity; ensuring basic human rights; supporting diversity; and working to end prejudice and discrimination. The Institute builds community and a sense of inclusion on campus while fostering positive social change.
The Office of Institutional Diversity supports efforts on campus and across the region to create equity and opportunity for all. We provide resources and forge partnerships to help create, implement and assess diversity-related measures, policies and practices.
The Community Service Center promotes a culture of civic engagement and responsibility at Bridgewater by developing a range of volunteer and community service opportunities throughout the region and beyond. We help Bridgewater staff and students realize their potential to change lives.
