Originally from Manchester, England, transfer exchange student Dan Slack spent a semester at Bridgewater – and returned home transformed.
“This was my first taste of education outside the U.K., and it really changed my whole philosophy,” he explains. “It was an eye opener for me being here. It made me realize I wanted to teach abroad, and it gave me a hunger to work with international children.”
After completing his degree in the U.K. and teaching at an elementary school there, Dan applied for a teaching position in Dubai and was hired. “In my interview in Dubai,” he says, “I told them my main goal is to help children become global citizens and be aware of their place in their community and in the wider world. If we get that started at an early age, hopefully it will lead to greater understanding between people around the world.”
